blender-logo The series of Packt Publishing Awards continues today with the results of best open source graphics software of the year . In competition, we had: Blender , Gimp , Inkscape , JMonkeyEngine and Scribus . The vote of the community spoke and the three winners are in order:

Blender is a free software and free animation, 3D modeling and rendering. It has advanced features for modeling, 3D sculpture, UV unwrapping, texturing, rigging (rigging) of Armoring, 3D animation, and rendering. It also manages non-linear editing, compositions, nodal creating materials, creating interactive 3D applications, and various physical simulations such as particles, rigid bodies, soft bodies and fluids.

Blender is available on Windows, Mac OS X, GNU / Linux, IRIX, Solaris, FreeBSD, SkyOS, MorphOS and Pocket PC.

GIMP, the GNU Image Manipulation Program, is a free software processing bitmap images (drawing, editing, animation, etc..). It is often presented as a free alternative to Adobe Photoshop.

It is available on Windows, Mac OS X, GNU / Linux.

Inkscape is an open source vector graphics editing, with capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X, using the format Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files W3C standard. The main purpose of Inkscape is to create a powerful design tool and easy to use, fully compliant with XML, SVG, and CSS standards.

It is available on Windows, Mac OS X, GNU / Linux.
